Description
Since the 1920s, football has been a spectator magnet and, in many places, especially in the industrial region of the Ruhr, part of everyday culture. Immediately after coming to power in January 1933, the National Socialists therefore set about bringing football clubs into line politically and ideologically: “Club leaders”; were installed, and “non-Aryans”; were excluded. Rolf Fischer and Katharina Wojatzek examine how the officials and players of Borussia Dortmund behaved during the dictatorship, how they adapted, or how they resisted being co-opted by the regime, based on numerous documents and photographs.
